Big Day today Lauren got Her new foot. Chris did a bunch of adjustments on the leg and presented Lauren with her first split toe foot. What's a split toe foot you ask? Check it out Lauren can finally where flip flops and sandals!!!! can anyone say shoe shopping!! Other good news from the visit is that Chris thinks she is pretty close to ready to get her first carbon socket. That means it would so much lighter and a lot thinner which means it won't show through jeans as much. She is SO happy... Great day!!
So Lauren has spent the whole weekend working:). But before work today we met the whole gang in Parker for Pickleball! If you have never played you should try it. It is so much fun. We played a ton in AZ but it is making its way finally into Colorado: Lonetree and Parker for sure! That's Lauren and Taylor against Papa (king of pickleball)!! Big day yesterday. Lauren went back to work. Lauren worked for Ameican Eagle for about a month before her surgery. The staff at her store has been incredible. They told her from the beginning that when she was ready her job would be waiting and they would work with her anyway that they could! True to there word they put her on the schedule and told her to work as long as she could! She worked about two hours and did great. She's working again today. So when looking for an amazing clothing company to support, please remember American Eagle and how committee they are to there employees not to mention there clothes are so darn cute and so responbly priced. If your in castle rock Colorado visit her store at the outlets:). Thanks American Eagle!! So Lauren actually walked without her crutches on Saturday three days after getting this new leg!! We were excited today to see what her pt Inger would think. She was thrilled with Lauren's progress but stressed the importance of not walking with the limp so as to not create bad habits. Lauren's new leg is a bit long so we have to leave pt and run to Chris and Greg for a new foot and inserts that hopefully will get her more squares off. Squats on the total gym. Need to really work the hamstrings. This was a fun one. The balance board. Looking forward, side to side and eyes closed! Forward walking on the treadmill and .... Backward walking on the treadmill! Obstacle 1: Lauren has never ever run a 5k. Obstacle 2: no leg. Obstacle 3: crutches. Obstacle 4: uneven running/walking surface. Obstacle 5: colored powder being thrown at you! Obstacles no way not for Lauren! Way to rock it Lauren and thanks to an amazing family that encouraged her the whole way!!! So I woke up this morning To Lauren baking and pleading to please let her wear Her new leg to school! " please please please I only have two classes and they're right next to each other please please please". "I want everybody to see how cool it is". SO Did Lauren win the battle or did her mom? What a powerful day today was. Lauren took her first steps as a baby in a cast on 3-31-98. 15 years later my baby girl took her first steps again in her new leg! I knew 15 years ago that nothing would stop her and she proved that again today. I am so very proud of her spirit, courage and determination and I am even more anxious to see what she is going to do. Incredible day!! You will hear her excitement In the video when she realizes that she can actually bend her foot and move heal to toe. Lauren has NEVER been able to do that ever. Started with a walker, but then upgraded to crutches after a few minutes. I couldn't be happier. I have never felt so normal in my entire life, as weird as that may sound(: I can now walk heal to toe and push off. Mom and dad think I look taller, only because I'm now actually even on both sides! This entire process of amputating and getting to the point of having a leg has been hard but so worth it. Throughout my journey so far I haven't cried, until today when I got to "walk out" of the office all by myself feeling on top of the world. Those were happy tears. |
